Overcoming The Imposter Syndrome

  • Reach Now 209 NW 4th Avenue Portland, OR 97209 (map)

“Feeling like a fraud at times is decidedly normal,” two sociology professors wrote recently in Harvard Business Review. After all, they added, the “self-admitted imposter club” counts among its members Nobel prize winners, actors Tom Hanks and Tina Fey, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, tennis icon Serena Williams and many other widely acknowledged successes.

This feeling that one doesn’t quite measure up is officially known as the imposter syndrome, and it strikes women in disproportionate numbers. Millions of people struggle to feel competent and successful despite their achievements and merit. For professional women, the imposter syndrome can result in a lack of self-promotion, reduced advancement opportunities, a gender pay gap and a general lack of confidence in their abilities.

Join WCL and moderator Christie Perrott, VP of Marketing and Communications at REACH NOW, as we host a panel of women leaders who will share their experiences and provide tips for overcoming feelings of inadequacy and incompetence.
This interactive panel will cover:
• Tools to manage and overcome feelings of self-doubt.
• How to identify triggers and change your narrative.
• How perfectionism can hold you back.

Christie Perrott is a mission-driven entrepreneur who is motivated to mentor and support women in business while advancing causes that create a more sustainable environment. The founder of an all-natural skincare company, she also serves as vice president of marketing and communications for REACH NOW, North America. A creator at heart, she enjoys the process of shaping things. She has personally struggled with the imposter symptom and continues to practice the art of letting go, accepting and embracing failures and developing an open and supportive learning mentality.
