WCL Breakfast: Not Working Networking? Big Mistake!

  • Standard Insurance – Center Bldg Rm 1 & 2 LL 900 Southwest 5th Avenue Portland, OR, 97204 United States (map)

Do you spend time expanding your network in and outside your workplace? Or, like many other women, would you rather spend more time “doing” than socializing?

If relationships are the currency of the workplace, women need to give themselves a raise. In a Nov. 12, 2014 article in Fortune Magazine, titled “Why Women Should Do Less And Network More”, authors Bartz and Lambert said of networking,

“Sometimes it is dismissed as the unseemly activity of overly ambitious professionals ascending the ladder of careerism. With the demand on women to perform at an equal or better level than their male counterparts, female leaders sometime assume they don’t have the time for social engagement. But leadership today is increasingly defined not just by how many hours you spend at your computer, but your ability to connect to others, how you incorporate outside perspectives, and how you navigate groups. Networking takes time, but it matters.”

Join us on October 22 as we focus on networking with Nancy Seifert, PhD, MS, FACHE, and Professor at Oregon State University’s College Of Public Health and Human Sciences. Networking has been a long time priority for her and something she drives through her teaching platform. In this workshop you will:

  • Critically analyze the do's and don'ts of effective networking
  • Explore several networking tools
  • Discuss and question digital networking opportunities
  • Identify contacts--ask yourself the 7 questions
  • Consider the micro-politics of gendering in networking

Make a commitment to invest in yourself. Come join us and develop your networking plan for this fall. Tickets $26.00 person. Breakfast included.
